Opening an SSO File
The SSO file type is primarily associated with Oracle Wallet Manager.
What is an SSO file?
When an Oracle Database needs to establish a secure connection, it accesses the SSO file to retrieve the required security objects. This process relies on the PKCS#11 standard, ensuring that sensitive information is handled properly.

How to open an SSO file
You need a suitable software like Oracle Wallet Manager to open an SSO file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SSO file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SSO file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert SSO files:
- Oracle Wallet Manager
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SSO files are often referred to as Oracle Wallet Manager databases because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- ChessDB (Search Options File) by Dr. David KirkbyChessDB is a database program used for storing chess games. A ChessDB format database consists of three files: .SI3 (index file); .SN3 (name file); .SG3 (game file) (those 3 are needed to make one database). These are all binary files. Some complete databases are held on the ChessDB web site. At the time of writing, one database (called 'huge') has over 3.5 million games. Other files used in ChessDB are: .PGN (Portable game notation, which is used in lots of chess programs, so is not unique to ChessDB); .EPD (Extended Position Description); .SSO (Search options file); .SOR (Repertoire file); .DAT (used on four files - engines.dat history.dat options.dat and recent.dat) to hold configuration information. All are text files. This file format is classified as Database. Related links: ChessDB Programmers Reference
SSO file format:
To view or edit SSO files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our examination of the SSO files comes to the following conclusion:
The SSO file extension is not widely used. Such a file mainly uses a defined SSO format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 70% of all SSO files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "¡øN" at the beginning. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The file size is in the range of 580 bytes to 7 KB. It is a modern file type. Examples of file names are cwallet.sso.
- 4% of all SSO files use the same file format, which have the signature 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 00 42 4C 55 45 43 4F 41 54. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. A typical file size is 620 KB. The following filename is common: dcq_primary_full.sso. Such SSO files store data about primary.
The remaining 26% of all SSO files are files with no common format, often e.g. sslClass. These files sometimes refer to config, local, game, debug, itadmin or blob. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your SSO file!
Technical Data for SSO File Extension

an sso security container file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with SSO files
- Associate the SSO file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open security container files. Because only the current version supports the latest SSO file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Oracle Wallet Manager update.
- To make sure that your SSO file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SSO file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
