What is an ARA file?

ARA files mostly belong to Archive Manager. ARA files serve as archive containers that can hold different types of data. They may use internal formats such as ZIP for compressed API specifications or RAR for satellite imagery.

API Specifications: Some files package compressed API details using ZIP compression.

Betting Data: Other files store betting records and are sometimes known as an Adaptive Rate Archive.

Game Data: Other variants serve as archives for game data, such as those related to BioWare productions.

How to open an ARA file

You need a suitable software like Archive Manager to open an ARA file. Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the ARA files produces the following result:

The ARA file extension is rather rarely used and includes different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 25% of all ARA files use the ZIP format, that is, an ARA file includes multiple compressed files. The 1 to 40 compressed files are called package.xml, \api\ and \services\. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. ARA files can be up to 27 MB in size, but are often around 9 KB - 2 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. api/. Examples of file names are COP3.ara. Such ARA files store data about tnma and ipage.
• 15% of all ARA files start with the bytes 36 2B crucial for this file format. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. The files are on average 18 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 1 MB. The following filename is common: d5aag2023.ara.
