What is a BOD file?

BOD files mostly belong to Electronics Workbench. BOD files are used in several technical fields and are not created by a single standard application.
In electronics, these files often store circuit Bode plots that hold frequency response data. This format is used by simulation tools from Electronics Workbench.
Other uses include:

Instant Messenger Logs: Files that contain chat history from applications like AOL Instant Messenger and encrypted Yahoo Messenger logs.

How to open BOD files

You need a suitable software like Electronics Workbench to open a BOD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Below is our analysis of the BOD files:

The BOD file extension is not widely used. Such a file includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 25% of all BOD files start with the bytes Bode data crucial for this file format. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The file size is in the range of 5 KB to 68 KB. The file type is relatively new. The following keywords are characteristic: column 1   Frequency (Hz), column 2   Gain (dB), column 3   Gain (Linear), column 4   Phase (Deg), trace name: Bode Result, Bode data: BOD, Gain_Range_Start, Color: 255 and Gain_Ra. The following filename is common: Design1.bod. Files like these have the following tags: filter and pass.
• 10% of all BOD files have the same signature 09021. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. A typical file size is 300 bytes.

All other BOD files (65%) have no consistent format, often, for example, BOD, PLMBOD and data. Files like these are sometimes linked to bolt, netsilon, projekt, buffer or scene.
