What is a CAG file?

CAG files mostly belong to VR Series Measurement. Your CAG file may be used in one of two specialized contexts.

Confocal Analysis File: This version stores data from confocal microscopes. It holds imaging and measurement information used in scientific analysis. Software like the VR Series Measurement system from Keyence is often used to view and process these files.

Compressed Audio/Animation File: In other cases, a CAG file contains compressed audio or character animation data. This type is linked to game engine tools such as the CryENGINE Sandbox Editor, and it is used for aspects of gaming like character animation.

How to open CAG files

If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the CAG files is as follows:

CAG is seldom used as a file extension and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The following file formats are most commonly found in CAG files:

• 45% of all CAG files use the same file format, which have the signature KPK0. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are often between 18 MB and 160 MB in size. The file type was developed only in the last few years. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 3ce05d80-8452-4446-9274-76595a40bd4f/1/84b648d7-e44f-4909-ac11-0476720a67ff, KPK0 and VK6f. Such files sometimes refer to data, measure and analysis.
• 25% of all CAG files start with the magic bytes 8W', which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files are partially readable with a text editor. The files are often between 2 KB and 7 KB in size. The keywords :aOV, a)VE'&, aoW", &~)V9a}), -UTY*-, 9-cUH, EccUH, clK( and I9as)VE are typical for these files. A common filename is Profile1.cag.
