The CGF file type is used by different programs with different formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:

55% of all CGF files have the same signature Cr. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The average file size is 45 KB with most files being between 1 KB and 380 KB in size. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. CrChF and CryTek. These files can be linked to viewer, holo, approach, jumpgate, anvl, buoy, glock and clip.
15% of all CGF files use the same file format, which have the signature NCAion. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The average file size is 170 KB with most files being between 15 KB and 500 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as AION_Data, NCAion, perforce, GlobalRange, OBJECTS, Administrator@AIONBUILD, artbuild and export. Files like these have the following tags: hair, event, body and lmch.

All other CGF files (30%) have no uniform format, the following 8 formats exist: CAL compressed data, DOC, CGF, JUJO, script and ivo. Files like these are sometimes linked to family, crate, tree, crucible, helmet, window, boots, flash or hider.
