What is a DI file?

DI files mostly belong to Papyrus. DI files can serve two distinct roles depending on their internal makeup.
These files are XML-based diagram files. They store diagram information in a structured, text-based format and are used in modeling tools such as Papyrus. In other cases, DI files are TIFF-based image files associated with Wang Imaging technology. These files store image data in a format derived from the TIFF structure.

How to open DI files

You need a suitable software like Papyrus to open a DI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. To find out what program is needed to open DI files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below is our analysis of the DI files:

DI is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type includes different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 30% of all DI files are based on the well-known XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. DI files can be up to 4 KB in size, but are often around 100 bytes - 890 bytes. The file type was developed only in the last few years. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> and <architecture:ArchitectureDescription xmi:version="2.0" xmlns:xmi="http://www.omg.org/XMI" xmlns:architecture="http://www.eclipse.org/papyrus/infra/core/archite. A usual file name is model.di or Q1.di. These files are attributed to diagram and case.
• 7% of all DI files are using the well-known TIFF file format to store the data. TIFF is short for Tagged Image File Format. It stores raster graphics images that support color depths from 1 to 24-bit, lossy and lossless compression and multiple layers and pages. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. DI files are between 74 KB and 500 KB in size. The keywords Comments, Keywords, Subject, Title, WANG TIFF and Author are typical for these files.
