What is a GFF file?

GFF files mostly belong to Geneious. GFF files are primarily used in genome analysis to store gene and genomic feature annotations. They usually follow a strict, tab‐delimited structure where each record lists details such as the sequence identifier, feature type, start and end positions, and additional attributes. This layout makes it easy for specialized bioinformatics tools to parse and display complex data.

How to open a GFF file

You need a suitable software like Geneious to open a GFF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
