To view or edit HRC files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the HRC files looks like this:

HRC is rarely used as a file extension and includes very many different file formats. But the following two file formats are common:

• 15% of all HRC files have the same signature :HEADER_BLOCK. The contents of these files are partially readable by a human. A typical file size is 760 bytes. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. :HEADER_BLOCK 2, SKELETON, root, chest, head, l_chest, l_collar and :BONES 21.
• 15% of all HRC files start with the bytes level0 { scene = crucial for this file format. The contents of these files are partially readable with a text editor. The files are often between 49 bytes and 110 bytes in size. The keywords level0, switch = 0, name and scene = model.edf are typical for these files. An example of a file name is chassis.hrc.
