What is an LL file?

LL files mostly belong to List & Label. LL files are not one single format. In most cases they are report files created by the List & Label tool. These files use the Microsoft Compound file format to store the design and layout of a report.
They can also hold other types of content. For example:

LLVM IR code: The file may contain LLVM Intermediate Representation code, a low-level language used during program compilation. See LLVM Documentation for details.

How to open LL files

You need a suitable software like List & Label to open an LL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LL file directly in the browser:. To find out what program is needed to open LL files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our analysis of the LL files produces the following result:

The LL file type is a very commonly used file extension and is primarily used by a single program. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 80% of all LL files use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. This Windows file format has features similar to those of a filesystem format with virtual files and subfolders. The Compound Document format is always starting with the bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1. The internal app name of LL files is cmll10.dll [10,30,0,0 (05-08-02 1117)], CM32L8.DLL [8,7,0,0 (01-08-21 1348)] or cm32L8.dll [8,7,0,0 (01-08-21 1348)]. The globally unique identifier of this file type is 8008b000-dcc7-11d0-b183-0040e994b57c or 8008b001-dcc7-11d0-b183-0040e994b57c. Sections and streams in the file are named Job0, Job1 and SummaryInformation. LL files can be up to 160 MB in size, but are often around 32 KB - 2 MB. The file type is old but is used even today. A usual file name is preview.ll. These files are attributed to report, rechnung, list, statement, angebot, assignment, invoice, printed and close.
• 8% of all LL files have the same signature ; ModuleID = . The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. LL files can be up to 520 KB in size, but are often around 600 bytes - 130 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as target triple = "x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu", target datalayout = "e-m:e-i64:64-f80:128-n8:16:32:64-S128", ; ModuleID = 'seashell-compiler-output', source_filename = "seashell-compiler-output", 32-p271, 32-p272 and struct. The file name hello.ll or main.ll is characteristic of these files. Files like these have the following tags: bubble and output.

The remaining 12% of all LL files are files with no common format, often, for example, SQL, file and format. These files sometimes refer to account, begleit, offerte, status, bill, extr, fact or mess.
