You need a suitable software like 3DS Max to open an LP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

LP format details:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the LP files looks like this:
You will often come across the LP file type. This includes various formats for various programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 25% of all LP files have the same signature \ Model . These files are text files, so they contain words and text. LP files can be up to 630 MB in size, but are often around 250 bytes - 950 KB. The file type is very recent. The keywords Model, \ LP format - for model browsing. Use MPS format to capture full model detail and Minimize are typical for these files. Some examples of file names are Model.lp or output.lp. Files like these are sometimes connected to homework, project, scheduling, esercizio, problem, diet, gate and mylp.
- 8% of all LP files have the same signature \ENCODING=ISO-8859-1. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. Most of these files are 170 bytes to 570 KB in size. The keywords \ENCODING=ISO-8859-1, \Problem name, Minimize, obj, obj1 and CPLEX are typical for these files. A usual file name is mymodel.lp.
All other LP files (67%) have no uniform format, such as Lightscape Preparatation, LaTeX-CAD drawing, Source, PNG, ZIP, Minimize and Lesen. Sometimes used for group, pack, assignment, firmware, midterm, capped, carbon, sudoku or cost. You can get all the details of your LP file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .lp file to view" above.
