What is an LP file?

LP files mostly belong to 3DS Max by Autodesk. LP file extension is associated with preparation (project) files created using Lightscape, a discontinued software that was used to apply accurate lighting to 3D models. Such LP files contain radiosity and ray tracing data used to provide realistic lighting for 3D scenes and objects. The technologies used by Lightscape have been integrated into 3DS Max so you may open and edit LP files with it. LaTex, a document preparation and publishing software uses the LaTex graphics drawing format to store drawings in LP files. Some video games also use LP file extension to store various data. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, uses LP extension to store game levelpack, while NASCAR Racing uses LP files to store configurations options of race tracks. How to open an LP file

You need a suitable software like 3DS Max to open an LP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. All other LP files (67%) have no uniform format, such as Lightscape Preparatation, LaTeX-CAD drawing, Source, PNG, ZIP, Minimize and Lesen.
