All about POB Files
The POB file type is primarily associated with Path of Building.
What is a POB file?
POB files are not defined by a single standard. They can represent different data types depending on which software created them. For example, one use is as a Payment Order Binary file that acts as a backup for Path of Building projects. This file stores build settings and other game data.
Other uses include:
- CNC Post Processor File: Used by PowerMill to control CNC machines. This file directs machine operations and may be executed by systems like Exapt PDM. See the PowerMill Overview for more details.
- 3D Model Format: It can be a model file using the Microsoft Compound Document format, associated with PRO100 and POLARIS Office.
- BACnet Panel Object File: This file is used in building automation systems by BACnet Advanced Control and NiagaraAX, storing configuration details for control panels.
- Punch! Home Design File: Employed by SketchUp (and referenced as Chief Architect Data File) to hold home design data. More information is available on the SketchUp website.
To open and view a POB file, use the originating program associated with that file type. If it is a backup file for Path of Building, launch that application. For CNC or 3D and design files, use the software provided by PowerMill, PRO100, or SketchUp respectively. A text editor will not correctly show the file content because the data is stored in a binary format.
FilExt.com tip: Identify the context of your POB file first. Check any associated documentation or file header information to decide which specialized application to use.
How do you open POB files?
You need a suitable software like Path of Building to open a POB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your POB file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a POB file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert POB files:
- Path of Building
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. POB files are often referred to as Path of Building backups because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Punch CAD Program (3D Object) by Punch! SoftwareThe CAD program works with a set of three files to draw a 3D CAD object: xxx.POB, xxx.POD, and xxx.PPV.
Technical Data for POB File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.

a pob binary backup file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with POB files
- Associate the POB file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open binary backup files. Because only the current version supports the latest POB file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Path of Building update.
- To make sure that your POB file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .POB file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
