What is a PVC file?

PVC files mostly belong to UV WinLab. PVC files are not a single-standard file format. Instead, they are used by several specialized applications across different industries.
  • PerkinElmer Data: Some PVC files store measurement data from instruments such as Biowave II or Implen NanoPhotometer. These files work with the PerkinElmer UV WinLab Data Processor.
  • Sage ERP Config: Other PVC files are used in Sage systems like MASBUILD. They hold the visual process flow or configuration information for programs such as Sage MAS 500 and related ERP systems.
  • PVCase Scene Files: A group of files use an XML structure, serving as scene files in solar design. These files, linked to Virtuosolar, support PV project planning (virto.solar).
  • ProView Configuration: Some variants are stored as Microsoft Compound files. They contain configuration data for ProVision setups.
  • 3D Model Files: A few PVC files, often in XML form and associated with COLLADA, hold 3D models of photovoltaic plants. These are used by pvDesign and relate to platforms such as ratedpower.com.
  • FilExt.com tip: Each variant should be opened with the software intended for that specific use. If the file appears as XML text, a simple text editor may show its contents; otherwise, a proprietary viewer or configuration tool is required.

How to open a PVC file

You need a suitable software like UV WinLab to open a PVC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PVC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PVC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert PVC files:

    1. UV WinLab
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. PVC files are often referred to as UV WinLab data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
    2. Process Panel Builder (Application File) by Rockwell Automation
HMI Configuration Tool. HMI = Human Machine Interface.

    PVC file format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the PVC files:

The PVC file extension is not common and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The following file formats are most commonly found in PVC files:

All other PVC files (35%) have different formats, the following 5 formats can be found: Panasonic Voice Container, DOC and XML. The category is export or layout. You can get all the details of your PVC file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .pvc file to analyze" above.

How to solve problems with PVC files

    • Associate the PVC file extension with the correct application.
    • Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest PVC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available UV WinLab update.
    • To make sure that your PVC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
