What is a PVC file?

PVC files mostly belong to UV WinLab. PVC files are not a single-standard file format. Instead, they are used by several specialized applications across different industries.

PerkinElmer Data: Some PVC files store measurement data from instruments such as Biowave II or Implen NanoPhotometer. These files work with the PerkinElmer UV WinLab Data Processor.

Sage ERP Config: Other PVC files are used in Sage systems like MASBUILD. They hold the visual process flow or configuration information for programs such as Sage MAS 500 and related ERP systems.

PVCase Scene Files: A group of files use an XML structure, serving as scene files in solar design. These files, linked to Virtuosolar, support PV project planning (virto.solar).

ProView Configuration: Some variants are stored as Microsoft Compound files. They contain configuration data for ProVision setups.

3D Model Files: A few PVC files, often in XML form and associated with COLLADA, hold 3D models of photovoltaic plants. These are used by pvDesign and relate to platforms such as ratedpower.com.

How to open a PVC file

You need a suitable software like UV WinLab to open a PVC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. PVC file format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension.
