Opening RAD Files
The RAD file type is primarily associated with Radiance.
What is a RAD file?
How to open a RAD file
You need a suitable software like Radiance to open a RAD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RAD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RAD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

RAD format details:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the RAD files is as follows:
The RAD file extension is quite common and covers different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in RAD files:
- 30% of all RAD files are based on the popular TIFF file format. TIFF is short for Tagged Image File Format. It stores raster graphics images that support color depths from 1 to 24-bit, lossy and lossless compression and multiple layers and pages. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. RAD files can be up to 1 MB in size, but are often around 40 KB - 180 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Author, Comments, Keywords, Subject, Title and WANG TIFF.
- 8% of all RAD files use the same file format, which have the signature http. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. RAD files are between 33 bytes and 49 bytes in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. http and flac. These files are often associated with radio, kbps, quence, gold, french, sector and line.
All other RAD files (62%) have different formats, the following 13 formats can be found: Reality Adlib Tracker module, Radioss starter input/keyword Deck, Source, RAR, SAMPLES, STATION, rad, genbox and STALKER. Often described as ground, lights, room, material, bright, modsx, rows or tilt. Just click the "Choose your .rad file to view this image" button on this page to find out what your RAD file is.

How to solve problems with RAD files
- Associate the RAD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open 3d scene descriptions. Because only the current version supports the latest RAD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Greg Ward manufacturer website after an available Radiance update.
- To make sure that your RAD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .RAD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
