All about RDP Files
The RDP file type is primarily associated with Network Operations Management.
What is an RDP file?
How do you open RDP files?
You need a suitable software like Network Operations Management to open an RDP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RDP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RDP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

- Network Operations Management by Micro Focus
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. RDP files are often referred to as Network Operations Management data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Windows (parameter file) by MicrosoftWindows is the name for several graphical computer operating systems developed by Microsoft for desktop/laptop computers (Windows NT) and embedded systems (Windows IoT). The RDP file is a parameter file used by the Remote Desktop service that comes with the Windows installation. It contains the server address, port number, username, password, domain, etc. This file format is classified as Settings. RDP file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the RDP files:
RDP is a very widely used file extension. The file type includes different formats for the applicable programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 40% of all RDP files are associated with Remote Desktop Connection Settings files, which internally utilize the well-known UTF-16 (LE) format. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The file size is in the range of 2.2 KB to 2.4 KB. The file type is relatively new. The keywords screen mode id:i:2, use multimon:i:0, session bpp:i:32, desktopwidth:i:1920 and desktopheight:i:1080 are typical for these files. The following filename is common: Default.rdp. Such RDP files store data about remote, server, cloud, desktop, access, work, terminal, connection and external.
- 25% of all RDP files start with the bytes re crucial for this file format. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. Most of these files are 800 bytes to 9 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as session bpp:i:32, redirectcomports:i:0, redirectclipboard:i:1, redirectprinters:i:1, drivestoredirect:s:*, redirectdrives:i:1, devicestoredirect:s:, prompt for credentials on, redirectsmartcards:i:1 and redirectsmartcards:i:0. Such files are related to cpub, rdsh, session, collection, apps and quick.
The remaining 35% of all RDP files are files with no common format, often e.g. ZIP, UTF-8, XML, full, auto, session, allow, desktopwidth and gateway. These files are often connected to amazonaws, compute, ciscoios, student, east or mstsc. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your RDP file!
Technical Data for RDP File Extension

an rdp driver package is a special file format by Micro Focus and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with RDP files
- Associate the RDP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open driver packages. Because only the current version supports the latest RDP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Micro Focus manufacturer website after an available Network Operations Management update.
- To make sure that your RDP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .RDP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
