Opening RUL Files
The RUL file type is primarily associated with InstallShield.
What is a RUL file
How do you open RUL files?
You need a suitable software like InstallShield to open a RUL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RUL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RUL file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

RUL file extension format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our analysis of the RUL files produces the following result:
The RUL extension is very commonly found and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 45% of all RUL files have the same signature ANSI/AAMA VERSION:. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. RUL files can be up to 900 KB in size, but are often around 310 bytes - 74 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The files contain the following words: GRADE RULE, GRADE RULE TABLE, CREATION DATE, CREATION TIME, NUMBER OF SIZES, ANSI/AAMA VERSION: 1.0.0, UNITS: METRIC, SIZE LIST, AUTHOR: LECTRA and PRODUCT. These files are often associated with shirt, dress, pant, size, scrubs, short, long, pattern, spodnie, blazer, felpa, front, style and cost.
- 15% of all RUL files start with the magic bytes ASTM/D, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. Most of these files are 260 bytes to 53 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as CREATION DATE, CREATION TIME, GRADE RULE, GRADE RULE TABLE, ASTM/D13Proposal 1 Version: D 6673-04, VERSION, AUTHOR: GERBER TECHNOLOGY, PRODUCT: ACCUMARK, UNITS: METRIC, NUMBER and UNITS: ENGLISH. Such files sometimes refer to base and proto.
All other RUL files (40%) have no uniform format, frequently e.g. DRC Rules export, UTF-16 (LE), version, SELECTION and ABDV. Often described as rules, layer, custom, topology, glossary, piratez, cmos or slim. You can get all the details of your RUL file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .rul file to view" above.

How to solve problems with RUL files
- Associate the RUL file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open install script/rules. Because only the current version supports the latest RUL file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Revenera manufacturer website after an available InstallShield update.
- To make sure that your RUL file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .RUL file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
