How to open a TLV file
You need a suitable software like VLC to open a TLV file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TLV file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TLV file directly in the browser:. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. Files with the TLV extension are quite widely used. This file type includes different formats for the applicable programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in TLV files:
- 35% of all TLV files are using the well-known RIFF file format to store the data. RIFF files store data in tagged chunks. There are primarily used to store multimedia such as sound and video. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. A typical file size is 300 MB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. LIST!, MJPG, hdrlavih8, strf(, strlstrh@, vidsMJPG, RIFF and AVI LIST. The following filename is common: 20180601AA.TLV or 20180601AB.TLV.
- 20% of all TLV files do not have a standard signature. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. TLV files are between 380 bytes and 2 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 1http://home.tomtom.com/tlvvocabulary/itemmetadata, 7http, http://num1.id.tomtom.com/, text/plaind and http://id.sharing.tomtom.com/anonymous/. The file name Application.tlv or splashw.tlv is typical for these files. These files are often associated with safety, internet, connect, premium, splash and meta.
All other TLV files (45%) have different formats, the following 8 formats exist: TLV and ECR. Often described as request, hello, data, apbtfw, config, crbtfw or itlsep.
