How to open a UM file

UM file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the UM files comes to the following conclusion:

UM is rarely used as a file extension and is used by different programs with different formats. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 40% of all UM files are based on the zip format, i.e. a UM file contains several compressed files. A UM file includes 5 to 80 files. Common included file names are C1.UM. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. UM files can be up to 3 MB in size, but are often around 2 KB - 260 KB. The files contain the following words: C1.UM. Such UM files store data about bandar and dolok.
• 7% of all UM files start with the bytes B0 00 00 01 60 00 00 89 D6 crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. A typical file size is 40 bytes. The file name cat.um is characteristic of these files.
