What is a V00 file

V00 files mostly belong to VMware ESXi. V00 files are used in more than one field.

VMware ESXi driver archive: These files are part of a split archive. They use the GZIP format to compress driver packages. The V00 file is the first segment of a multi‐part archive that must be reassembled with additional parts (such as .V01, .V02, etc.) to form a complete VMware driver archive. Extraction can be done with VMware tools or programs like 7-Zip. For more details, see VMware.

Kretztechnik ultrasound image: In some cases, a V00 file represents a segment of a split 3D ultrasound volume. These files are handled with specialized software such as KretzFileViewer, which combines the segments to present a complete medical image.

How to open V00 files

You need a suitable software like VMware ESXi to open a V00 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your V00 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a V00 file directly in the browser:. Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the V00 files is as follows:

The V00 file extension is rarely used and covers different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 60% of all V00 files are using the well-known GZIP file format to store the data. Gzip is a compressed archive file format. Gzip (GNU zip) is only capable of compressing a single file. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are on average 240 KB in size and range from 30 KB to 17 MB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Examples of file names are vmx.v00 or ata_pata.v00. Such files sometimes refer to atlantic, pata and vmware.
• 25% of all V00 files are associated with Krez 3D ultrasound image. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. Most of these files are 1 MB to 11 MB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: KRETZFILE 1.0, JFIF, Kretztechnik AG, $.' ",# and (7),01444. The following filename is common: I0000003.V00 or I0000004.V00. Files like these are about music and baby.
