Opening VB Files
The VB file type is primarily associated with Visual Studio.
What is a VB file?
Main uses:
How to open VB files
You need a suitable software like Visual Studio to open a VB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VB file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VB file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

VB file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our analysis of the VB files produces the following result:
The VB file ending is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 30% of all VB files store the data in the UTF-8 file format. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). The contents of these files can even be read by a human. VB files can be up to 130 KB in size, but are often around 1 KB - 26 KB. The file type is old but is used even today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as System, Imports, Runtime and Public Class. The file name Application.Designer.vb or Form1.vb is characteristic of these files. Such files are related to designer, aspx, downloader, module and cong.
- 2% of all VB files start with the bytes 83 4F 9D, which are crucial for this file format. They consist of unreadable binary data. VB files can be up to 230 MB in size, but are often around 59 MB - 200 MB.
All the rest of the VB files (68%) have different formats, often, for example, Sub and Imports. Often described as flash, assembly, emotion, excel, login, vrock, body or info. You can get all the details of your VB file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .vb file to analyze" above.

How to solve problems with VB files
- Associate the VB file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open source code files. Because only the current version supports the latest VB file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Visual Studio update.
- To make sure that your VB file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .VB file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
