Opening VSO Files
The VSO file type is primarily associated with DirectX.
What is a VSO file?
How to open VSO files
You need a suitable software like DirectX to open a VSO file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VSO file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VSO file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert VSO files:
- DirectX by Microsoft
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. VSO files are often referred to as DirectX 3d images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- NVIDIA (compiled vertex shader) by NVIDIASceniX is a real-time 3D scene management engine developed by NVIDIA for Windows computers using NVIDIA graphics processing units. The program uses DirectX as a dependency and stores its vertex shaders in NVV files. Compiled NVV files have VSO file extension. This file format is classified as 3D Image. Related links: DirectX
VSO file extension format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the VSO files is as follows:
As a file extension, VSO isn't very common and is used by different programs with different formats. But the following two file formats are common:
- 25% of all VSO files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "01 01 FE FF" at the beginning. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. Most of these files are 96 bytes to 1 KB in size. The file type was primarily used more than 10 years ago. An example of a file name is blur.vso or nuke_cloud.vso. Files like these are about nuke, model, skin, shadow, cloud and motion.
- 15% of all VSO files start with the magic bytes DXBC, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are on average 3 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 11 KB. The files contain the following words: DXBC and RDEF. Such VSO files store data about light, scenario, lighting and debug.
The remaining 60% of all VSO files are different files with different signatures, often e.g. config, MCVS and PSVSSv. Tagged as font, glsl, texture, report or reset. You can get all the details of your VSO file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .vso file to analyze" above.
Technical Data for VSO File Extension
a vso compiled vertex shader is a special file format by Microsoft and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with VSO files
- Associate the VSO file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open compiled vertex shaders. Because only the current version supports the latest VSO file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available DirectX update.
- To make sure that your VSO file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .VSO file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
