All about VTP Files
The VTP file type is primarily associated with ParaView.
What is a VTP file?
How do you open VTP files?
You need a suitable software like ParaView to open a VTP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VTP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VTP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert VTP files:
- ParaView
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. VTP files are often referred to as ParaView data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- ParaView (VTK Polygonal Data) by Kitware, Inc.ParaView is an application designed with the need to visualize large data sets in mind. ParaView is available as an open-source system. ParaView is a turn-key visualization system built on top of VTK that makes VTK easier to use with a point and click interface. Related links: Visualization ToolKit (VTK)
- VisionTools Pro-e (Touch Panel Source File) by CrestronVTP is a source file used by Vision Tools Pro-e for various touch panels that Crestron manufactures. The identifying characters used for this association are - Hex: D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 00. This file format is classified as Source Code.
VTP file format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the VTP files looks like this:
The VTP extension is quite commonly used. The file itself predominantly uses a uniform format. The file formats most commonly found in VTP files are:
- 70% of all VTP files are VTK XML PolyData files, which are using the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The average file size is 120 KB with most files being between 3 KB and 2 MB in size. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. The keywords <PolyData>, <?xml version="1.0"?>, Piece NumberOfPoints, <VTKFile type="PolyData" version="0.1" byte_order="LittleEndian" header_type="UInt32" compressor="vtkZLibDataCompressor"> and NumberOfVerts are typical for these files. These files are often associated with femur, mesh, blade, predicted, surface, motion, normal and tibia.
- 10% of all VTP files internally use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. This file format is used by previous Microsoft Office programs and other Windows programs and stores the data in complex containers and sections. Compound files begin always with signature bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 (ÐÏࡱá). The file contains several sections with names like Contents. A typical file size is 8 MB. Such VTP files store data about panel, ipad, room, xpanel, boardroom, crestron, demo and tmpc.
The remaining 20% of all VTP files are files with no common format, the following 9 formats exist: ZIP, JSON, vtk, DEF and VTP. They are often associated with model, frame, clavicle, aorta, data, particles, humerus, anchor, sacrum, sphere or lower. How to solve problems with VTP files
- Associate the VTP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest VTP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available ParaView update.
- To make sure that your VTP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .VTP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
