A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the WST files comes to the following conclusion:

WST is not a commonly used file extension and includes various formats for various programs. But the following two file formats are common:

• 20% of all WST files use the same file format, which have the signature 00 00 00 0C 57 69 6E 53 53 48 44 20. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. Most of these files are 3 KB to 100 KB in size. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. BssCtrl.exe, edited, Settings interface, WinSSHD 8.15 and local Easy. A common filename is BvSshServer-Settings.wst.
