How to open an XCI file
You need a suitable software like Vivado to open an XCI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your XCI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a XCI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

XCI file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the XCI files is as follows:
Files with the XCI extension are quite widely used. This file type includes very many different file formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 10% of all XCI files do not have a standard signature. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. Most of these files are 4.8 GB to 7 GB in size. The file type was used 20 years ago but is still in use today. The files contain the following words: 0lSqS_. An example of a file name is Pokemon_LetsGo_Pikachu.xci or Pokemon_ Let-s Go_ Pikachu!.xci. Files like these are about pokemon, pikachu, lets, gopikachu and world.
- 10% of all XCI files start with the bytes ns ¼%vS/i ö20ù crucial for this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. A typical file size is 10 GB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. %vS/i and \stL;. A common filename is Pokemon Sword (Europe) (En,Ja,Fr,De,Es,It,Zh,Ko).xci or Pokemon Sword Eur switch-xci.com.xci. Such files are related to sword, europe, switch and eurswitch.
All other XCI files (80%) have no uniform format, such as XCI game engine main project, XML, qFH, sktw, Azazr, Cci, XtY and bAb. The category is mario, super, crossing, horizons, animal or trimmed. Just click the "Choose your .xci file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your XCI file is.
