What is a HID file?

HID files mostly belong to Image Viewer. HID files vary in purpose. Most often they are used as hidden image files that use the JPG format to store image information in a way that is not obvious at first glance.

Hidden Image File: The file contains image data (often in JPEG form) and may be used to hide pictures or data within an image container.

How to open a HID file

You need a suitable software like Image Viewer to open a HID file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. To find out what program is needed to open HID files, you need to determine the file format. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. The HID file extension is quite common and includes various formats for various programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 55% of all HID files are based on the well-known JPG file format. JPEG is the standard image format for lossy and compressed image data. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The average file size is 85 KB with most files being between 3 KB and 1 MB in size. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The following keywords are characteristic: JFIF and Exif. Some examples of file names are 2020-06-01 10.30.jpg.hid. Such files are related to imagejpeg, imag, photo, jpeg, received, media, share and orca.
• 15% of all HID files start with the bytes ABIF crucial for this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. Most of these files are 620 KB to 870 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. ,tdir, ABIF and 60-460. These files are attributed to ladder, algf and plex.
