What is a KMP file?

KMP files mostly belong to KeyShot. KMP files are not a single file type but can refer to several different formats based on their use.
For nearly half of the cases, a KMP file is a KeyShot Material Package. In this case the file is a compressed ZIP archive that holds material data such as textures and settings for the KeyShot rendering software.
Other uses include:

Keyboard Mapping File that uses a JSON format to store key assignments for Android devices or game controllers.
Korg Multi-Pad file which holds key configuration data for Korg keyboards. More details can be found at Korg.
Keyboard musical performance file, linked to musical instruments like the Yamaha PSR-1100; further info is available at Yamaha.

These files serve different purposes: they either package material assets for rendering or store configuration data for mapping keys on various devices. To open a KMP file, use the software associated with its origin. If it is a KeyShot Material Package, use KeyShot; if it is a mapping file, a plain text or JSON editor, or a specialized mapper tool, might be used.

How to open a KMP file

You need a suitable software like KeyShot to open a KMP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your KMP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a KMP file directly in the browser:. A common filename is free fire-01(Default).kmp or com.tencent.ig_1920x1080(MySetting).kmp. These files can be linked to fire, free, model, mysetting, backpack, tencent and bottom.

How to solve problems with KMP files

Associate the KMP file extension with the correct application.
Update your software that should actually open container files. Because only the current version supports the latest KMP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available KeyShot update.
