Opening a PID File
The PID file type is primarily associated with Linux.
What is a PID file?
How to open PID files
You need a suitable software like Linux to open a PID file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PID file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PID file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert PID files:
- Linux by The Linux Foundation
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. PID files are often referred to as Linux miscs because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- AVG Antivirus (worm) by AVGAVG Antivirus is an application that protects PCs and mobile devices against malware and spyware. It can detect and delete a W32/Yayin-A worm on a Windows system. This worm file has PID filename extension. This file format is classified as Executable.
- JADE (search report) by Materials DataAVG Antivirus is an application that protects PCs and mobile devices against malware and spyware. It can detect and delete a W32/Yayin-A worm on a Windows system. This worm file has PID filename extension. This file format is classified as Data.
- SQLite (database) by SQLite ConsortiumSQLite is a cross-platform C language library which serves as a relational database management system. It can access an SQLite database saved in a PID file. This file format is classified as Database.
PID file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the PID files looks like this:
PID is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 35% of all PID files use the Microsoft Compound File format, known also as OLE2 Compound Document format or Composite Document File format. This file format is used by previous Microsoft Office programs and other Windows programs and stores the data in complex containers and sections. The file signature of compound files is defined as D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1, so the first character of a file looks like "DOCFILE". The app name of a PID file is SmartPlantPID Application or MicroStation. There is also a CLSID, a globally-unique identifier of a COM (Component Object Model) object: 16ce6023-5f5b-11d1-9777-08003655f302. The data in this file is stored in streams whose names are AppObject, PSMroots, Sheet6, JSitesList, DocVersion3 and DocVersion2. The average file size is 2 MB with most files being between 660 KB and 3 MB in size. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology.
- 15% of all PID files have the same signature USER: . These files are text files, so they contain words and text. The files are often between 770 bytes and 1 KB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: FILE, JADE: Peak, Max P, Peak Search Report, Peaks, SCAN, Search Report, USER, DATE: Wednesday and DATE: Monday.
All other PID files (50%) have no uniform format, such as SQL and JSON. You can get all the details of your PID file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .pid file to analyze" above.
Technical Data for PID File Extension
a pid process identity is a special file format by The Linux Foundation and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with PID files
- Associate the PID file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open process identitys. Because only the current version supports the latest PID file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the The Linux Foundation manufacturer website after an available Linux update.
- To make sure that your PID file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PID file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
