Opening a 3DT File
The 3DT file type is primarily associated with 3D Mapper.
What is a 3DT file?
They encapsulate a complete 3D model along with its geometry, textures, and metadata, optimized for streaming and display in mapping applications.
How to open 3DT files
You need a suitable software like 3D Mapper to open a 3DT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your 3DT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a 3DT file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert 3DT files:
- 3D Mapper
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. 3DT files are often referred to as 3D Mapper gis because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- 3D Greetings (Personal Edition Card) by Riverdeep Interactive Learning Limited3D Greetings is included with different Broderbund products and us used in conjunction with them to produce greeting cards. There is a US-CERT Vulnerability notice on one of the 3D Greetings versions. See the affiliated links. Related links: Vulnerability Note VU#574401
- PhotoModeler (File) by Eos Systems Inc.PhotoModeler is about photogrammetry -- the science of pulling accurate measurements from photographs.
- Topicscape (Database) by 3D-Scape LimitedTopicscape is a memory aid, a thinking tool and a "let's get organized" assistant that works on your computer screen in 3D. 3DT files are databases in Firebird format (the open source database). This file format is classified as Database.
3DT format details:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the 3DT files is as follows:
3DT is rarely used as a file extension and includes different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 55% of all 3DT files internally use the ZIP format, so several files are combined and compressed into one 3DT file. A 3DT file can contain up to 310 files (mostly 2 - 290). Customary file names are export.3dm, export.con, export.jpg, export.mtl, frame_1.jpg, images.json and tileset.json. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. 3DT files can be up to 100 MB in size, but are often around 200 KB - 72 MB. The keywords authoringMesh.glb and export.3dm\ are typical for these files. The following filename is common: Export.3dt. Files like these are about authoring, occlusion, room and floor.
- 6% of all 3DT files start with the bytes 28 30 00 00 28 00 00 00 40, which are crucial for this file format. They consist of unreadable binary data. The file size is in the range of 12 KB to 12 KB.
All other 3DT files (39%) have different formats, the following 3 formats can be found: UTF-16 (LE). Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your 3DT file!

a 3dt ZIP-based container is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with 3DT files
- Associate the 3DT file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open zip-based containers. Because only the current version supports the latest 3DT file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available 3D Mapper update.
- To make sure that your 3DT file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .3DT file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
