BLOCK file extension format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. In the following you will find our evaluation of the BLOCK files:
The BLOCK file ending does not have a uniform file format. But the following two file formats are common:
- 10% of all BLOCK files are using the well-known UTF-8 file format to store the data. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). These files are text files, so they contain words and text. The files are on average 110 KB in size and range from 41 KB to 170 KB. The files contain the following words: eyJjb, lbnRzIjpbeyJvYmplY, RzIjpbeyJfX and YiOjMsInN. The file name .block is typical for these files.
- 8% of all BLOCK files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "0A 22 1A 20" at the beginning. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. BLOCK files are between 6 KB and 22 KB in size. The files contain the following words: Orderer and channel. The file name genesis.block or mychannel.block is typical for these files.
All other BLOCK files (82%) have no uniform format, often, for example, Encrypted Blender 3D data, UnityFS, KLBR, eyJjb, Name and NCRC. These files sometimes refer to logo, object, data, media, code, bootloader, channel, blocks, index, list, menu or user. Just click the "Choose your .block file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your BLOCK file is.
