Opening an EVE File
The EVE file type is primarily associated with ProDiscover Basic.
What is an EVE file?
FilExt.com note: To open any EVE file, identifying its origin is key. Checking the header or metadata with a hex editor and using the originating software is the recommended approach.
How to open EVE files
You need a suitable software like ProDiscover Basic to open an EVE file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your EVE file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a EVE file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

EVE file extension format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the EVE files is as follows:
The EVE file type is a very commonly used file extension and is used by different programs with different formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in EVE files:
- 30% of all EVE files use the same file format, which have the signature DFT Image. They consist of unreadable binary data. EVE files can be up to 40 GB in size, but are often around 1 MB - 7 GB. The file type is old but is used even today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. DFT Image, Joe Friday, Chapter and exercise. The following filename is common: C1Prj02.eve or C1Prj01.eve. Files like these are sometimes connected to inchp, gcfi, prac, datacarve, image, evidence and case.
- 7% of all EVE files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "D2 07 00 00 0E 00 00 00 53 65 72 69 61 6C 69 7A" at the beginning. They consist of unreadable binary data. A typical file size is 700 KB. The files contain the following words: DRG1 and Serialize 3Cad. An example of a file name is 20180601.eve.
The remaining 63% of all EVE files are files with no common format, frequently e.g. UTF-8, EXE, WordPerfect, layout, version, ADOBE and UPS. These files are often connected to dialog, localhost, sample, prefs or demo. If you want to find out what your EVE file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
