What is a GTL file

GTL files mostly belong to EasyEDA. Your GTL file is a Gerber file used for the top copper layer of a PCB design.: This file holds vector instructions that tell manufacturing machines where to expose or etch copper on a printed circuit board. For example, many designs created with EasyEDA save the top layer as a GTL file, while designs from Autodesk Eagle (see Autodesk Eagle) sometimes use a similar Gerber layout file format.

Primary use: Define the top copper layer in a PCB.

Alternate use: Serve as a key component of a full set of Gerber files that together document the entire board layout.

Work in tandem with other files (for soldermask, silkscreen, drill data, etc.) to complete the manufacturing data package.

How to open a GTL file

You need a suitable software like EasyEDA to open a GTL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GTL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GTL file directly in the browser:. GTL file extension format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our analysis of the GTL files produces the following result:

GTL is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type is primarily used by a single program. But the following two file formats are common:

• 70% of all GTL files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "G04" at the beginning. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The files are on average 34 KB in size and range from 2 KB to 220 KB. The file type is relatively new. The files contain the following words: G04 Scale, G04 Layer: TopLayer*, G04 Gerber Generator version 0.2*, 100 percent, G04 EasyEDA v6 and FSLAX. Gerber_TopLayer.GTL is a typical file name. These files are attributed to layer, gerber and copper.
• 7% of all GTL files start with the magic bytes %FS, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. GTL files are between 31 KB and 530 KB in size. The files contain the following words: FSLAX, ADD10C, %MOIN*%, %MOMM*%, ADD12C, ADD14C, ADD15C, ADD11C and ADD13C.
