What is a GTS file?

GTS files mostly belong to Altium Designer.

GTS files serve several distinct functions depending on their origin. They are not one uniform file type; each instance uses the same extension for different specialized data.

• PCB Solder Mask Data: These files can contain data for the top solder mask layer used in printed circuit board designs. They follow a Gerber RS-274X standard and are produced by tools like Altium Designer and Eagle PCB Design Software. Viewing or editing such files is typically done with specialized programs such as GerberView. For more details, see Altium or Autodesk Eagle.
• Game Assets: Some instances of GTS files are used in game development. They may appear as Unity asset bundles using the UnityFS format or as game texture sets used in titles like Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, sometimes associated with the Granny 3D Model Format. • CAD Models: In other cases, GTS files store CAD model data based on the Parasolid format. Such files, sometimes noted as GTS NX, are part of 3D modeling workflows and are managed by systems like Siemens PLM. More information can be found at Siemens PLM.
• Text Databases: A fewer number of GTS files serve as Gersang Text Databases. They are used within specific parser systems designed for handling structured text data.

How to open a GTS file

You need a suitable software like Altium Designer to open a GTS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GTS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GTS file directly in the browser:. GTS file format:

Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the GTS files looks like this:

GTS is seldom used as a file extension and includes various formats for various programs. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 25% of all GTS files have the same signature G04. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The file size is in the range of 1 KB to 20 KB. The keywords G04 Scale, G04 Gerber Generator version 0.2*, G04 Layer: TopSolderMaskLayer, G04 EasyEDA v6 and FSLAX are typical for these files. A usual file name is Gerber_TopSolderMaskLayer.GTS. Such files sometimes refer to mask, gerber, solder and layer.
• 10% of all GTS files internally utilize the UnityFS file format. UnityFS is short for "Unity File System". This Unity Game Engine package is a bundle of several compressed Unity assets. Each asset may contain 2D texture, text resources, music files, scene objects, etc. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are on average 23 MB in size and range from 13 MB to 45 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: UnityFS and 5.4.3f1.
