What is an LDX file?

LDX files mostly belong to MoTeC i2 Pro. LDX files are not tied to one single purpose. They are used in different technical areas.

Racing Telemetry: The most common use is as an XML file that stores racing data. These files hold race telemetry like lap times and performance figures and are processed by systems such as MoTeC i2 Pro and Race Technology Lap Data in AiM Race Studio.

Firmware Updates: Some LDX files use the ZIP format. They deliver firmware updates for equipment from B&R Automation. More details are available at B&R Automation.

Dictionary Indexing: A portion of LDX files act as dictionary index files for Lingvo and LingvoSoft Dictionary. They help in organizing dictionary data.

GIS Layers: Another group uses a compressed FreeArc format as ArcGIS layer files in ArcGIS Pro. You can learn more at ArcGIS Pro resources.

LED Display Data: Some files are applied as LED display files by LED Studio or as data files for Golden Laser Projector setups from LedshowTW.

Ladder Logic Diagrams: A few LDX files record ladder logic diagrams, as seen in tools like LEGO Digital Designer.

How do you open LDX files?

You need a suitable software like MoTeC i2 Pro to open an LDX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LDX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LDX file directly in the browser:. LDX file extension format:

Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the LDX files:

The LDX file extension is rather rarely used and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 35% of all LDX files are based on the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The files are often between 270 bytes and 1 KB in size. The file type was developed only in the last few years. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. <Layers>, <?xml version="1.0"?>, <MarkerBlock>, <Layer>, Marker Version, <LDXFile Locale="English_United, <MarkerGroup Name="Beacons" Index="0"> and DefaultLocale="C" Version="1.6">. Such LDX files store data about data, porsche and stint.
• 20% of all LDX files use ZIP compression, the LDX file contains a number of compressed files. An LDX file includes 7 to 150 files. Common included file names are CleanUp.ftp, Osl.xml, fw.ini, os.ftp, osl.xml, vxWorks_bmx1.bin and webldrnr.ftp. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. The files are often between 1 MB and 4 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. ftpSD, CleanUp, a``Pa and ,cd`i. Some examples of file names are BMXP20180601_SV320.ldx or BMXP20180601_V240.ldx. These files are attributed to bmxp and bmep.
