What is a MAR file?
How to open a MAR file
You need a suitable software like Access to open a MAR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your MAR file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a MAR file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

MAR format details:
To find out what program is needed to open MAR files, you need to determine the file format. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our examination of the MAR files comes to the following conclusion:
As a file extension, MAR isn't very common and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 55% of all MAR files use the ZIP algorithm, so several files are combined and compressed into one MAR file. The number of files included is on average 9 and ranges from 4 to 26. You can see the included files and images by renaming the file extension to .zip and then double-clicking it. The file size is in the range of 9 KB to 18 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: META-INF/MANIFEST.MF. These files are often associated with addressing, axis, rampart, setup, locuspay and jurs.
- 25% of all MAR files are Microsoft MARC archive files. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are 44 KB to 71 MB in size, with a median of 7 MB. The files contain the following words: MAR1. A usual file name is update.mar or market.mar. Such MAR files store data about complete, firefox, browser, linux and themedef.
All other MAR files (20%) have no consistent format. If you want to find out what your MAR file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
