What is an OL file?

OL files mostly belong to Hammer by Valve. Files with OL file extension are mainly used to store prefabs and object layouts in games (e.g. Half-Life) that use Source game engine. The OL file is created using Hammer, an editor for mapping objects and textures. Hammer prefabs can be found as a collection of code objects, brushes, and objects stored in separate OL files located in the "prefabs" directory. OL prefab files belong to different libraries and may be created, edited, reused, or removed from the Prefab Factory dialog of Hammer. OL files are between 4 KB and 1 MB in size. The files contain the following words: DIV-OL08BL. Files like these have the following tags: slddrw, assembly, pack, drawing, sldasm and lamp.

The remaining 5% of all OL files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, Worldcraft.
