Opening an OL File
The OL file type is primarily associated with Hammer.
What is an OL file?
How to open an OL file
You need a suitable software like Hammer to open an OL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your OL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a OL file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert OL files:
- Hammer by Valve
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. OL files are often referred to as Hammer 3d images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Creo (3D model) by PTCCreo is a family of CAD software built for creating and visualizing a variety of 3D designs on Windows operating systems. Models created using Creo can be saved as OL files. This file format is classified as 3D Image. Related links: PTC Creo
OL file extension format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the OL files looks like this:
The OL file extension is very common and covers different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 65% of all OL files are associated with STALCRAFT texture. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The file size is in the range of 9 KB to 3 MB. It is a modern file type. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as #?3RGGGGGGGGGGGG and #?3VGGGGGGGGGGGG. Such files are related to diff, spek, skin, body, stalboy, runa, banner, albatros, blocks and atlas.
- 30% of all OL files start with the bytes DIV-OL0, which are crucial for this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. OL files are between 4 KB and 1 MB in size. The files contain the following words: DIV-OL08BL. Files like these have the following tags: slddrw, assembly, pack, drawing, sldasm and lamp.
The remaining 5% of all OL files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, Worldcraft. The category is battlepass, hitmarker, bandit, boss, chimera, diffuse, newyear, summer, admin or trace. If you want to find out what your OL file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

an ol 3D prefabs and object layout is a special file format by Valve and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with OL files
- Associate the OL file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open 3d prefabs and object layouts. Because only the current version supports the latest OL file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Valve manufacturer website after an available Hammer update.
- To make sure that your OL file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .OL file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
