What is a TH file?

TH files mostly belong to PyTorch. A TH file is mainly a container for machine learning models used by PyTorch. In most cases, the file is a Torch Hub model stored inside a ZIP archive. This package holds model weights, configuration files, and other components that a PyTorch environment loads directly through its hub API.
On occasion, a TH file may also be a JPEG image used as a thumbnail by TouchPal. These cases are distinct from the primary purpose.

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the TH files looks like this:

The TH extension is very commonly found and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 90% of all TH files use the ZIP algorithm, multiple files are compressed and combined into one TH file. Most often they are 10 to 11 compressed files. File names inside are ZTH1.AA, ZTH1.AC, ZTH1.AT, ZTH1.CAT, ZTH1.CLC, ZTH1.CMP, ZTH1.COL, ZTH1.FAM, ZTH1.MVT and ZTH1.SUB. You can see the included files and images by renaming the file extension to .zip and then double-clicking it. The files are on average 870 KB in size and range from 360 KB to 3 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: FAMUT. The following filename is common: Z20180601.TH or H20180601.TH. Files like these are about model, best, checkpoint, training, agent, state, unispeech, salience, encodec, trained, gector, modelo and resnet.
• 3% of all TH files start with the bytes 80 02 8A 0A 6C FC 9C 46 F9 20 6A A8 50 19 2E 80, which are crucial for this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. Most of these files are 40 KB to 440 MB in size. The files contain the following words: intq, little_endianq, longq, protocol_versionq, shortq, type_sizesq, ccollections, OrderedDict and ctorch. An example of a file name is weights.th or resnet20-12fca82f.th. Such files are related to dink, colors and decc.
