See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. UFDX files are often referred to as X-Ways Forensics data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- X-Ways ForensicsThe .UFDX file extension signifies an XML-based format primarily used by X-Ways Forensics for storing evidence data. It acts as a structured container for information gathered during forensic investigations, often employed for legal or security purposes. The Universal Forensic XML Evidence format ensures data integrity and facilitates analysis within the X-Ways software environment. This file format is classified as Disk Image/Forensic Data.
UFDX file format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the UFDX files looks like this:
The UFDX file extension is rarely used and is primarily used by a single program. The following file formats are most commonly found in UFDX files:
- 98% of all UFDX files save the data in XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The average file size is 550 bytes with most files being between 490 bytes and 760 bytes in size. The file type is relatively new. The following keywords are characteristic: <?xml version="1.0"?>, <Dev, EvidenceID and <EvidenceCollection xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance". A usual file name is EvidenceCollection.ufdx.
All other UFDX files (2%) have different formats. If you want to find out which format your UFDX file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .ufdx file to view".
