What is a DDT file?

DDT files mostly belong to Age of Empires.

DDT files store data for specific applications. They are most often used as game data files. For example, in Age of Empires the file holds game maps, scenarios, and player configuration. It is read by the game engine to set up a match.
Other uses include:

How to open DDT files

You need a suitable software like Age of Empires to open a DDT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. The DDT file type includes different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 55% of all DDT files use the same file format, which have the signature RTS3. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters.
