Opening TSW Files
The TSW file type is primarily associated with TradeStation.
What is a TSW file?
For example, one common type stores trading workspace settings. These files use the Microsoft Compound File format to save a user's layout and configuration in the TradeStation platform. You can view more about this at TradeStation.
Other TSW files pack firmware data. In such cases the file may be compressed with a 7z or ZIP engine and used with tools such as the Linde Hydraulics Service Tool. More details are available at Linde Hydraulics.
Additional TSW files also contain game data or save files (such as for Train Sim World or The Sword of Xolan) and sometimes hold plain text (for example, the TASTstar Textdatei in German).
How to open TSW files
You need a suitable software like TradeStation to open a TSW file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TSW file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TSW file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

TSW file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the TSW files is as follows:
TSW is not a commonly used file extension and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. The file formats most commonly found in TSW files are:
- 70% of all TSW files use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. This general-purpose file format provides a file-system-like structure within a file for the storage of arbitrary, application-specific streams of data. The first 8 bytes of the CFB format are D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). The file contains several sections with names like Contents, Embedding 1 and Embedding 2. TSW files are between 32 KB and 950 KB in size. The file type is old but is used even today. A common filename is 2020-01 Free Algo.tsw. Such TSW files store data about free, algo, strategy, watchlist, trade, tradestation, workspace, futures, options, income, asset, forex, intra and setup.
- 8% of all TSW files are based on the popular 7z file format. 7z is a compressed archive file format that supports several different data compression, encryption and pre-processing algorithms. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. TSW files are between 170 KB and 760 KB in size.
The remaining 22% of all TSW files are different files with different signatures, frequently e.g. ZIP. These files are often connected to backup, tunes or char. If you want to find out which format your TSW file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .tsw file to analyze".
Technical Data for TSW File Extension

a tsw workspace file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with TSW files
- Associate the TSW file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open workspace files. Because only the current version supports the latest TSW file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available TradeStation update.
- To make sure that your TSW file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
