What is an EMM file?

EMM files mostly belong to Edraw MindMaster. EMM files store structured project data. They most often contain mind maps created by software such as Edraw MindMaster and MindManager.
These files typically use a ZIP-based container to hold data in an XML or similar format. This method organizes nodes, connections, and related project information in a single file. In some cases, the same extension denotes 3D models, for example, Gamebryo material data, and projects for MikuMikuDance animations.

Mind mapping: Contains diagram data including ideas, nodes, and links.

3D model data: Holds material information used in game design.

MMD animations: Stores project details for animation sequences.

How do you open EMM files?

You need a suitable software like Edraw MindMaster to open an EMM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. EMM file extension format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our examination of the EMM files comes to the following conclusion:

The EMM file type is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 65% of all EMM files use ZIP compression, so several files are compressed and saved in one EMM file. EMM files contain from 8 to 15 compressed files. File names inside are [Content_Types].xml, \docProps\app.xml, \docProps\core.xml, \docProps\thumbnail.png, \map\, \map\maps\map1.xml, \map\maps\mapMaster1.xml, \map\shape\presentShape.xml and \map\shape\shape.xml. You can see the included files and images by renaming the file extension to .zip and then double-clicking it. The files are on average 96 KB in size and range from 36 KB to 330 KB. The files contain the following words: docProps/core.xml. These files are attributed to mindmap, mind, moral and konsep.
• 20% of all EMM files start with the magic bytes 28 1B 89 FA 34 06 76 32 2E, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. Most of these files are 3 KB to 28 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Arial, TopicC and v2.0.7.
