TES file extension format:

Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the TES files comes to the following conclusion:

TES is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type is used by different programs with different formats. The file formats most commonly found in TES files are:

• 20% of all TES files are using the well-known WordPerfect file format to store the data. WordPerfect is a word processor now owned by Corel and has a long history that began in the 1980s. It may contain formatted text, tables, charts, drawn objects, and images. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. Most of these files are 2 KB to 17 KB in size. The file type is very old and rarely used today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Epson. Files like these are about capites, and almost always comprise personal data.
• 15% of all TES files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "0,0,5,13,9,1,0,0,0,0,13,15,10,15,5,0,0,3,15,2,0,11" at the beginning. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. TES files can be up to 260 KB in size, but are often around 100 KB - 260 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 0,0,5,13,9,1,0,0,0,0,13,15,10,15,5,0,0,3,15,2,0,11,8,0,0,4,12,0,0,8,8,0,0,5,8,0,0,9,8,0,0,4,11,0,1,12,7,0,0,2,14,5,10,12,0,0,0,0,6,13,10,0,0,0,0 and 0,0,0,12,13,5,0,0,0,0,0,11,16,9,0,0,0,0,3,15,16,6,0,0,0. The file name optdigits.tes is characteristic of these files.
