Opening TPA Files
The TPA file type is primarily associated with Retail POS software.
What is a TPA file?
In many retail environments, a transaction log file stores point-of-sale data. Such a file records daily sales transactions and is read by proprietary retail software to track operations.
How to open TPA files
You need a suitable software like Retail POS software to open a TPA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TPA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TPA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

- Palm (Data Import Template) by Palm, Inc.To import data into the Palm database you need to create or have the appropriate template. TPA file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the TPA files is as follows:
The TPA file extension is not widely used. Such a file is used by many programs, each with its own file format. The file formats most commonly found in TPA files are:
- 10% of all TPA files start with the magic bytes 1 POS00, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The file size is in the range of 87 KB to 20 MB. The file name POS0001_20180601.tpa is characteristic of these files. These files can be linked to npevt and nptrx.
- 7% of all TPA files use the same file format, which have the signature FF 7F 01 00 00 00 00 00 FF FF. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are on average 350 KB in size and range from 22 KB to 3 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: CStringList, CUtaMgr, board, CObArray, CUtaTestSelector, qbsubtable, Main, Normal and qbstmt. Files like these have the following tags: controller, measure and source.
All other TPA files (83%) have different formats, the following 11 formats can be found: TwinCAT Addresses data, ZIP, Source, RATM, Uaq and DEFINE. Sometimes used for tantra, param or claim. If you want to find out what your TPA file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

a tpa transaction log file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with TPA files
- Associate the TPA file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open transaction log files. Because only the current version supports the latest TPA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Retail POS software update.
- To make sure that your TPA file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
